Best Airfare Price – Where Should You Buy Airline Tickets

Author: larry60
If you have done much traveling on airlines, you know how confusing the different airfares can be. What day should you leave and return to get the best airfare? What days are the best to purchase my airline tickets? Should I purchase my tickets from an online travel website, from a travel agent or go straight to the airline? There are so many options when purchasing airfare, it would take an enormous amount of time to look at every single option. So here we will look at a couple if things you should do to get the best airfare prices, any time of the week.

Where should I purchase my tickets? - The options are a travel agent, directly through the airline or from an online provider.

Travel agents - Anymore, travel agents usually don't like to be agents for airlines because in recent years the airlines have eliminated or drastically reduced the commissions paid to them. One time it might make sense to purchase your airline tickets from an agent is when you are booking a vacation package. The travel agents may know of some hotel/resort and airline packages that the general public is not aware.

Airline directly – One would think that it would be cheaper to purchase tickets directly from the source, cutting out the “middleman.” But that is not necessarily true. Airline agents are taught to squeeze everything possible out of the customer. That's not to say that you may be able to find good ticket prices from the airline, but don't assume this to be true.

Online provider – There are dozens of online providers that are fighting for your business. A lot of times the prices quoted on their website are the same as each other, but I have seen prices on one site as much as 25% off for the exact same round trip flights. Your best bet is to check on of the websites, like Kayak or another website that compares fares from several sources.

In conclusion, always, always check an online provider first, then if you so desire, call the airline that has the flights you want and see if they offer a better price. There is even an airline that will give you a 5% discount if you are on hold for too long.
